Linden Park Project to be Built Under a Community Benefits Agreement

Work in the City of Columbus to build a new recreation center and update a city park will be performed by affiliated members of the Columbus/Central Ohio Building and Construction Trades Council under a  Community Benefits Agreement.

The $25 million Linden Park project is expected to create between 60 and 80 jobs for members of the C/COBCTC and for members of Sheet Metal Workers Local 24. Continue reading →

Google Coming to Central Ohio

The world’s largest search engine is coming to Central Ohio, which should create about 100 of jobs for members of Sheet Metal Workers Local 24.

While the project is still in the design stages, the $600 million data center is expected to be smaller than the $750 million Facebook datacenter. Both datacenters will be built in New Albany.

Bill will Aid High School Apprenticeship Recruitment

Sheet Metal Workers Local 24 stands to benefit from a bill recently passed in the Ohio House.

House members voted unanimously to approve House Bill 98, the Ohio High School Career Opportunity Act, which gives equal opportunity for representatives from colleges and universities, the armed forces, skilled trades, businesses and charitable organizations to present information on future career and post-graduate opportunities to high school students.

HB 98 now moves to the Senate for possible committee hearings and floor vote. If passed by the Senate, it will become law and give the building trades more access to public schools to expose students to careers in the building trades. Continue reading →
