The U.S. Department of Commerce awarded $8.5 billion in direct funding to Intel for commercial semiconductor projects under the Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors (CHIPS) and Science Act.

On Jan. 30, affiliated Columbus/Central Ohio Building and Construction Trades Council members and other area labor unions attended the Columbus Regional Airport Authority Board of Directors Meeting and called on the board to enter into a Community Benefits Agreement with the building trades.
The message was made clear to the CRAA board that a CBA will ensure minorities, women and workers of all races and genders will be hired for all the construction work on the new $2 billion terminal at John Glenn International Airport in Columbus.

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger announced that the project timeline to produce microchips in Ohio has been pushed back.
While speaking to analysts at a conference in late August, Gelsinger said the company will shift its focus to a two-fab expansion in Chandler, Ariz.

A new hotel adjacent to the Hollywood Casino Columbus will be constructed by affiliated members of the Columbus/Central Ohio Building and Construction Trades Council under a Community Benefits Agreement (CBA).
Penn Entertainment, the owner of Hollywood Casino Columbus signed a CBA for the project, on July 20.
The CBA requires at least 20 percent of the project’s manhours to be performed by Columbus or Franklin County residents. Continue reading →
The 2022 forecast for construction work in Central Ohio looks strong, as the region will continue to be one of the nation’s hotbeds.
Despite supply chain shortages and manpower issues, Columbus/Central Ohio Building and Construction Trades Council Executive Secretary-Treasurer Dorsey Hager is expecting a booming year.
Some projects in Ohio, including several within the C/COBCTC jurisdiction, slowed last year due to a lack of materials. Contractors were affected by shortages in steel, electrical parts, roofing material, brick, drywall, paint and other items. As a result, some projects were pushed back, but in many instances, contractors simply adjusted schedules to accommodate material delays. Continue reading →
