Local 24 attends the 2025 NABTU Legislative Conference

SMW 24 leaders take concerns to members of Congress

Sheet Metal Workers Local 24 Business Manager Jeff Hunley and Local 24 Representatives attended the annual North America Building Trades Unions Legislative Conference in April in Washington, D.C.

The Local 24 delegates to NABTU were (pictures left to right) Brawny Welch, Jeff Rowe, Hunley, Nick Collini and Josh Williams.

During the NABTU Conference, many legislative issues that affect building trades unions and their affiliated members were discussed with those in attendance.

Additionally, speakers – both Republican and Democrat – address the audience, speaking about various issues.

To wrap up the conference, Local 24 delegates participated in the NABTU Lobbying Day at Capitol Hill, joining SMART Representatives from across the county in speaking to members of Congress.

Local 24 delegates met with the offices of Rep. Mike Carey (R-Columbus), Rep. Troy Balderson (R-Zanesville), Rep. Greg Landsman (R-Cincinnati), Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-Columbus) and Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio).

“It’s extremely important, and an honor to represent the membership of SMART Local 24 in the historic halls of the United States Capitol Building, to ensure our membership has a voice in critical labor matters,” said Hunley.

Items discussed during the meetings included SMART Local 100 apprentice Kilmar Garica’s deportation, Inflation Reduction Act clean energy credits and the labor standards included in the act, protecting the CHIPS Act and protecting health benefits of SMW Local 24 members.
