Sheet Metal Workers Local 24 proudly spread holiday cheer, by making monetary donations and volunteering with two wonderful community programs.
As members of #SMARTArmy, Local 24 feels a duty to give back to the community and we proudly donated time and money to both the Unions Share and Adopt-a-Family programs.
In partnership with the affiliated members of the Central Ohio Labor Council AFL-CIO, United Way of Central Ohio and St. Stephen’s Community House, Local 24 proudly participated in the Union Shares program.
Participating organizations donated money and/or canned food to Union Shares, which helps union families or individual union members who are on fixed incomes or have been laid off from their jobs.
Local 24 members not only made monetary donations, but also volunteered their time to help sort canned items and to fill orders.
Three recipients of Union Shares were SMW Local 24 families, who were in need.
Members also participated in the Adopt-a-Family program, which is run solely on donations.
Adopt-a-Family volunteers “adopt” a family by shopping for the entire family’s Christmas gifts and then wrapping those gifts.
Over the past several years, including this year, Local 24 made monetary donations to the program, and our members volunteered to adopt a family.
We recognize Local 24 member John Hahn and his Wife Christy, who have been participating in the Adopt-a-Family program in partnership with Columbus
City Schools for 15 years. During the past eight years, they adopted families with students enrolled in the Windsor Stem Academy, a Columbus City School District elementary school. On average, John and Christy adopt 16 to 20 families a year, which is an average of 100 family members per year.
Sheet Metal Workers Local 24 congratulates the Hahn’s for their selflessness and thank all of our members who generously donated either money, time or both to one of these two wonderful programs. We are proud to have such wonderful members make up our #SmartArmy.
